Our Opinion
If your taste runs to quiet elegance combined with perfect service, the Sunset Beach Resort in Glacis on the north-west coast of Mahe is arguably the best you can get. The hotel is a little slice of heaven in paradise. It has a philosophy of flawless customer service and hospitality. The service is superb and genuinely warm-hearted. No effort is spared to ensure your happiness.
Summary
The Sunset Beach hotel is situated on a granite presquile with a most beautiful white sandy beach on the North West coast of Mahe. It overlooks the spectacular bay of Beau Vallon and mysterious islands of Silhouette and L’ Ile du Nord. It is ideally located just 15 km from the airport and 7 from the capital city Victoria.

This charming boutique-type hotel, with its’ romantic atmosphere makes it perfect for honeymooners and couples alike. Many very good restaurants are in close proximity such as the La Scale or simpler creole restaurants like the Boat-house. The cove is an ideal snorkelling location and diving centres and watersport facilities are accessible 2km away at the nearby hotels at Beau Vallon.

The resort consists of 29 air conditioned guest rooms, junior suites and villas, all arranged around a perfect white sandy cove and adorned by beautiful granite bolders and lush tropical vegetation. Stroll through lush tropical gardens of palms, broad-leaved ‘badamier’, ‘takamake’ and ‘frangipani’, to a beach of golden sand sloping gently down into the water. Once in the water both the swimming and the snorkelling are superb. Some of the fish that you may encounter are damsel fish, zebra and parrot fish.

The hotel bar ‘On the rocks’ is suspended over the swirling foam and crystal clear waves of the Indian Ocean; the freshwater pool is excavated from rock of the promontory. Guests can lounge against a bar carved from a single huge tree trunk, favourite tipple in hand, while the sun sets the sky alight at sundown, turning Silhouette Island on the horizon into an inky mystery. The Silhouette Restaurant, with its marbled floor is open to the sky and the breezes. The menu offers delicious dishes of Creole, French and other international cuisines. The generous lounge is equipped with carved wooden seats and comfortable sofas in a décor of beautifully crafted replicas of schooners and local wood carvings.
